This may have been a lead or zinc mine in Cwmorthin (or possibly a mine near Craig yr Wrysgan or possibly Moelwyn No 2 zinc mine further south) [Davis 2002].
It is possible that it was described as a manganese mine by its owners in order to qualify for government investment during WWII. (Manganese being of strategic importance during wartime as discussed in The manganese trade.) After the war the new equipment might have been moved elsewhere [Hopkinson 2002].
