Hendrecoed Welsh Mining History

The Hendrecoed Welsh mining history website is a project to document and make public some aspects of the mining history and associated industrial archaeology of north Wales.

Merioneth Manganese

The manganese mines of the former county of Merionethshire.

Manganese was mined in Merionethshire from the early 19th century for approximately 100 years. This website contains details of the mines, including plans and photographs, plus information about the geology, mining history and methods, the manganese trade, uses of manganese and a comprehensive bibliography.

The mines and quarries of Wales

Wilkinson’s searchable gazetteer and bibliography of the mines and quarries of north Wales.

The late Jeremy Wilkinson researched bibliographical references to more than five thousand mines and quarries in the pre-1974 north Wales counties of Anglesey, Caernarfonshire, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Merioneth. The gazetteer has subsequently been expanded to include the locations of mines and quarries in the remainder of Wales and includes bibliographic references to the metalliferous mines of mid-Wales.

The website provides an on-line searchable version of the Gazetteer and Bibliography.

Aerial ropeways of north Wales

A list of aerial ropeways associated with mining and quarrying in north Wales.
